Screening for Autism
Legacy offers screening for Autism Spectrum Disorders from 6 months old to 24 months old. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, one in 90 children born in the United States are diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum (11/2009). Early intervention is shown to be effective for long term prognosis. The screening will include a clinical intake with the child’s caregiver(s) and a short assessment with the child focusing on basic neurological functions/intactness, receptive functions, expressive functions, and cognitive processes.
Instruments or measures utilized include: Bayley Infant Nurodevelopmental Screener (BINS) and the Pervasive Developmental Disorders Screening Test – II.
