Kara Knox, MA

Kara received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Westmont College in 2005.  She graduated with honors and was given the esteemed award of Top Psychology Senior of the Year (Willard F. Harley Award). 

 

Kara received her Masters of Arts in Counseling degree from Colorado Christian University in 2011.  She has extensive research experience, and presented her Master’s research at the Rocky Mountain Psychological Association in Idaho (2008). 

 

Kara’s counseling experience began while living in Santa Barbara, California.  Kara worked at the Devereux Foundation, a residential treatment facility for adults, teens and children.  At Devereux, Kara worked with adults who were dually diagnosed with intellectual disabilities, autism, and other diagnoses such as anxiety and depression.

 

Kara has been with Legacy Comprehensive Counseling & Consulting since April of 2010.  From April 2010 to December of 2010, Kara completed her master’s level clinical internship experience.  Kara is currently obtaining her post-graduate clinical hours and working towards state licensure under the clinical supervision of director and clinical psychologist, Molly White, Ph.D. 

 

In addition to her counseling, Kara has experience and interest in office management.  At Legacy, Kara also fills the role of Practice Manager. 

 

Kara’s preferred style of therapy is eclectic, blending Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Client-Centered Therapy. 

 

Kara’s areas of specialty include therapy for children, adolescents, group therapy and parent-training.  Specifically, Kara works with children and adolescents with pervasive developmental delays, behavioral issues, anxiety, OCD and depression.  Kara also loves to teach social skills and coping skills in a group setting.  Kara specializes in designing individualized parenting plans to fit the needs of her clients and their families.  These parenting plans generally blend the theories of Parent Management Training (PMT), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), and Parenting with Love and Logic.  Kara also assists in conducting developmental evaluations for the diagnosing of developmental disabilities, autism, asperger’s, ADHD, OCD, and learning disabilities. 

 

Kara lives in Castle Rock with her husband, son and golden retriever.
