Lori Baker received her Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and minor in English from Texas Tech University. She earned her Master of Art degree in Occupational Therapy from Texas Woman’s University in 2009. While attending Texas Woman’s University, Lori was a member of the National Scholars Honor Society, Pi Theta Epsilon Occupational Therapy Honor Society, and Golden Key International Honour Society.
Lori completed her level I pediatric internship at Our Children’s House at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, TX gaining experience with traumatic brain injuries, stroke, burns, premature birth, chromosomal abnormalities, cleft lip/plates, feeding issues, and sensory processing disorders. She completed her level I adult/geriatric internships at the VA Hospital of North Texas, Integra Hospital, Grace Presbyterian Village, and UT Southwestern University working with patients’ diagnosed with traumatic brain injuries, hip/knee replacements, stroke, dysphasia, morbid obesity, West Nile Virus, Guillain-Barré syndrome, amputations, cancer, dementia, arthritis, gunshot wounds, hand injuries, and burns, spinal meningitis.
Lori completed her level II pediatric internship at Sewall Child Development Center where she worked closely with families and provided treatment to children diagnosed with Down syndrome, autism, developmental delay, chromosomal abnormalities, sensory processing disorder, cerebral palsy and spina bifida. She completed her level II adult internship at HealthSouth Plano, where she worked with patients’ diagnosed with stroke, amputations, cancer, multiple sclerosis, end stage renal failure, knee/hip replacement, dementia, bipolar disease, spinal fusion, hand/wrist fractures, diabetes, and intracranial hemorrhage.
Lori has grown up volunteering with Special Olympics and has had the opportunity to work at Adam’s Camp with a wonderful team of multidisciplinary therapists. Lori believes in the therapeutic benefits of building a bond with an animal and has volunteered at Turff Therapy and Therapeutic Riding Center (Lubbock, TX) and Equest Therapeutic Riding Center (Dallas, TX). Lori also owns a certified therapy dog, who is a goldendoodle named Marley.
