Rebecca Howard, Psy.D.

RebeccaDr. Rebecca Howard received her doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the University of Denver.  While at the University of Denver, Dr. Howard provided therapy and assessment services to children and adolescents struggling with anxiety, phobias, depression, self-harming behaviors, and those on the autism spectrum.  She provided integrative and systemic therapy for children, adolescents, and families at the Children’s Hospital of Denver, the Mental Health of Center of Denver, and Denver Public Schools.

Dr. Howard conducts comprehensive psychological testing for assessment, evaluation, differential diagnoses, and treatment recommendations on children and adults.  These assessments help to provide treatment recommendations for individuals who experience anxiety, depression, or phobias as well as individuals who are diagnosed with a learning disorder, mood or thought disorder, or those on the autism spectrum.

Dr. Howard’s areas of specialty include child and adolescent therapy, more specifically those children and adolescents who have experienced physical or sexual abuse and neglect.   She also provides therapy for adolescents and young adults who struggle with anxiety, depression, and self-harming behaviors including cutting and thoughts of suicide. Her work with adults includes those who struggle with stress, anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar or schizophrenic disorders that affect their ability to maintain family relationships or work.

Many clients Dr. Howard sees seek therapy to help them understand and recover from a trauma. This includes children and adults who have experienced or witnessed domestic violence, physical or sexual abuse. She has a special focus on helping the client find the strengths that helped the client through the traumatic event and how to use these strengths to promote safety and healing.

Dr. Howard’s therapeutic approach is an integrative one where the individual’s personal interests are utilized and incorporated into their work together.  This includes using photography in therapy to help clients express themselves visually as well as verbally. This is especially useful with adolescents and young adults who may struggle to express thoughts and feelings.
